The Beth Din Kashrut Department issued an urgent update today regarding an error in the 2010 Pesach Guide.

The BD announcement reads as follows (bold as per announcement):

On page 39 of the Pick ‘n Pay Beth Din Passover Guide, under the heading “Use of Stoves & Ovens on Yom Tov,” it erroneously states:

A gas stove or oven may only be lit on Shabbat or Yom Tov from an existing flame.

The words “on Shabbat” should be deleted (as lighting, even from an existing flame, is certainly prohibited on Shabbat) so that the sentence correctly reads:

A gas stove or oven may only be lit on Yom Tov from an existing flame.

It is a credit to the Kashrut Dept staff (and the countless hours they spent compiling this information) that this is the first error that has required correction!

Users of the Pesach.MyShtetl website should note that the information was also incorrectly stated on the website as all information was provided by the Beth Din. This is now being corrected on the website.
